Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science, Shirwal

Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science, Shirwal District Satara was established in 1988 under the auspice of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri and consequent upon formation of Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) Nagpur, the institute was transferred under its control in the year 2000. The name of the institute is given in order to honour the great freedom warrior Krantisinh Nana Patil who established a parallel government and fought against the British Regime. This institute has excellent track record of producing meritorious undergraduate students and outstanding ranks in the all India ICAR JRF Entrance examination. In the ICAR JRF examination three students of this institute has secured 1st Rank at national level. Teaching, research and extension activities are at full pace and this institute offers M.V.Sc. Degree program in all the disciplines of Veterinary Science. Similarly PhD program is also offered in selected disciplines. This institute is well connected by road, rail, air to Pune and Mumbai.  Along with teaching, research and extension are core domain of activities and this institute has successfully implemented numerous externally funded research projects sanctioned by DST, DBT, ICAR, RKVY, MLDB etc. Similarly, institute is also extending services to various private agencies and several research trials sponsored by feed, food and pharmaceutical, biological agencies are continuously undertaken by the expert faculty members. Active involvement in extension of veterinary science and animal husbandry is one of the promising activities, and this institute has established sound liaisons with state Animal Husbandry Department, dairy co-operatives of Western Maharashtra and farming community. Extensive programs are regularly implemented by the institute in order to create mass awareness, provide scientific trainings, demonstrations, and publication of extension articles in local language.
